What Is Gypsum Board?

Gypsum board is one of many gypsum panel products, defined in ASTM C11, Standard Terminology Relating to Gypsum and Related Building Materials and Systems, as “the general name for a family of sheet products consisting essentially of gypsum.”

Gypsum Board  is a panel made of calcium sulfate dihydrate, with or without additives, typically extruded between thick sheets of facer and backer paper, used in the construction of interior walls and ceilings. The plaster is mixed with fiber, plasticizer, foaming agent, and various additives that can reduce mildew, flammability, and water absorption.
