The process of producing plaster of Paris:

1. Gypsum mining: The raw material, gypsum, is extracted from gypsum mines or quarries.

2. Crushing and grinding: The gypsum is crushed into small pieces and then ground into a fine powder. This process increases the surface area of the gypsum, which helps with its subsequent reaction.

3. Calcination: The ground gypsum powder is heated in a calcination kiln at high temperatures (around 150-165 degrees Celsius or 300-350 degrees Fahrenheit). This process removes the water of crystallization from the gypsum, converting it into calcium sulfate hemihydrate.

4. Milling and sieving: The calcined gypsum is milled and sieved to obtain a uniform and fine powder.

5. Mixing and forming: The powdered plaster of Paris is mixed with water to form a paste or slurry. This paste can then be poured into molds or applied directly onto surfaces for various applications, such as in construction, art, or medical casting.

6. Drying and setting: The formed plaster of Paris is allowed to dry and set. During this process, the calcium sulfate hemihydrate reabsorbs water and hardens, forming a solid and stable material.

7. Finishing and packaging: The dried plaster of Paris can be further processed, such as smoothing or painting, depending on its intended use. Finally, the finished products are packaged and prepared for distribution.
